GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS)
GIS is an enabling technology that integrates common database operations such as query and statistical analysis with the unique visualization and geographic analysis benefits offered by maps. These abilities distinguish GIS from other information or database systems and make it valuable to a wide range of county departments for explaining events, predicting outcomes, and planning strategies. The use of GIS gives the Region the ability to create maps, integrate diverse information, visualize scenarios, assess concentrations or gaps in services and opportunities, and address many of the issues associated with managing a regional organization, by developing effective solutions like never before.
