3. What documents are required for exporting to Canada?

Canadian Customs Documentation
Documents to be supplied by manufacturer

NAFTA Certificate of Origin

Goods may qualify for lower duty rates or may be exempt for duty rates based on North American Free Trade Agreement.


Canadian Customs Invoice
(or equivalent commercial invoice)

Sales receipt or invoice that describes goods in detail

The following key information must be supplied on the invoice
Importer and Exporter
Day of direct shipment (day leave for Canada)
Currency of settlement
Country of origin of the goods
Number of packages
Description of the Goods <
Quantity of the goods in the package
Unit Price / Total Price (Each Box)
Invoice Total (entire Shipment)

Documents to be supplied by Canadian Customs Bonded Carrier


Cargo Control Document

This represents the initial Record of Shipment. Their customs broker or "carrier" will have this document and must report all commercial goods shipped to Canada.



Bill of Lading
(Carrier's Internal Shipping Document)

Carrier produces everything on the truck, specifies date of direct shipment, and determines applicable exchange rate.

4. What is a Schedule B Code?

There are millions of trade transactions occurring each year. These transactions are classified under approximately 8,000 different products leaving the United States. Every item that is exported is assigned a unique 10-digit identification code. Every 10-digit item is part of a series of progressively broader product categories.
